Regulating the Nervous System, Part 1: Slowing Down
The first practice in an ongoing series on nervous system regulation
Many of you know that yoga has been a huge part of my life for a very long time. For years I taught classes, workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings. More recently, caregiving and life have taken center stage, and while I’ve talked about creating online yoga videos for quite a while, I never quite got around to it.
A few weeks ago I decided to stop talking about it and start recording.
This video is the first in what I hope will become an ongoing series of mindfulness based practices focused on nervous system regulation. I’ve also created a new section on Substack called Sacred Tremor Practice where I’ll be sharing yoga classes, meditations, and other practice based offerings as they become available.
I’m excited to finally begin sharing them with you!
Practice #1: Regulating the Nervous System, Part 1: Slowing Down
This is the first practice in a series focused on nervous system regulation through mindfulness, breath, and simple movement.
The practices in this series are intentionally slow and uncomplicated. They are not designed to be workouts. Instead, they are invitations to slow down, pay attention, and cultivate a little more steadiness in the body and mind.
Each practice begins with a short movement meditation before gradually unfolding into a fuller sequence. The movements are accessible, the pace is gentle, and the emphasis is on awareness rather than achievement.
For those who enjoy practicing with music, I’ve also created a Spotify playlist to accompany this class. The practice was recorded without music, so feel free to use the playlist, choose your own, or practice in silence.
I hope you’ll roll out your mat and join me.
A note about supporting this work
This practice is free and will remain free.
If you find it helpful and would like to support future yoga and meditation videos one option is to become a paid subscriber here on Substack.
If subscriptions aren’t your thing but you’d still like to support this work, you can also make a one time contribution through Venmo: @Roger-Mckeever
Either way, I’m grateful you’re here and practicing with me.
